Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation around the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
