Authorities stated they were notified by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior representative said the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
